I spent much of my early working life in a career which I found to be totally unrewarding until a change of direction took me into the field of fine art. I was in my element mixing with artists, sculptors and other creative people, and surrounded by beautiful and interesting pieces of artwork.

In addition I was travelling the country, often through fabulous countryside, venturing overseas, and building professional and friendly relationships with a variety of people.

Redundancy brought all this to an end, and gardening leave beckoned.

I threw myself into rejuvenating my own small plot and developed an interest that had been with me since boyhood. As I toiled away, lifting and setting flagstones, clipping and mowing, I realised I was at peace with myself in my garden and it occurred to me that maybe this could be my future. I needed some serious knowledge and training before I let myself loose on the public.

After an RHS Principles of Horticulture course and a City & Guilds in Garden Design, I completed a Foundation Degree in Garden Design. I have developed an interest in gardening for wildlife; our gardens are vital oases and corridors for vast numbers of birds, animals and in particular, insects. I take great delight in witnessing the activity of bees and birds in our gardens, though I’m maybe less enthusiastic about molluscs!

I love my garden and my aim is to help others, who love their land, to get the most out of it.
I don’t profess to be an expert in all things horticultural. If I don’t know the answer to a question I will find it. If a job is beyond my skills I will tell you. But I will work hard, and use my training and knowledge to help you achieve the garden you want.​
